JUNO Hair Migum Branch No.1

Y GROUP's relationship with JUNO HAIR began in 2006. At that time, JUNO HAIR had not yet become the global brand it is today. What stood out instead was CEO Kang Yoon-sun's philosophy of putting people first. That belief resonated deeply with us, and we felt that the architecture should reflect the same idea—that spaces should ultimately be designed around people.

Migum Branch No.1 became the beginning of a long collaboration. Rather than following the conventional image of a hair salon, the original project introduced a calm, gallery-like environment defined by restrained forms, carefully balanced proportions, and the quiet presence of light and materials. At the time, it represented a new direction for salon design in Korea.

Eighteen years later, JUNO HAIR has grown into an international beauty brand, and Migum Branch No.1 has been given a new life. This was never intended to be a simple renovation. It was an opportunity to express, through architecture, the journey that the brand and its spaces have shared over nearly two decades.

The central theme of the redesign is relationship—the relationship between clients and designers, between people and the brand, and between architecture and everyday experience. Inspired by the spatial transitions found in European cathedrals, the project was organized as a sequence of spaces that unfold gradually, allowing visitors to experience changing atmospheres rather than a single static interior.

The entrance introduces the renewed identity of JUNO HAIR through softly curved forms and carefully restrained detailing. Inside, movement, natural light, and materiality merge into a continuous spatial experience reminiscent of a refined luxury retail environment.

The most distinctive architectural element is the newly expanded vaulted ceiling. Reinterpreting the Romanesque vault through a contemporary language, it introduces rhythm and depth while creating a calm atmosphere that encourages conversation between clients and designers.

Materials were deliberately restrained. Microcement, matte tiles, and metal finishes were combined to reveal their natural textures rather than decorative effects. Lighting and furniture were designed as integral parts of the architecture, ensuring that the time spent in the salon feels comfortable and unhurried. JUNO HAIR Migum Branch No.1 is more than a renovated salon. It represents eighteen years of shared growth between a brand and an architect, translated into architecture. It also marks a new beginning as JUNO HAIR continues its journey from Korea to the global stage.

Growing a Brand Through Space

Our collaboration with JUNO HAIR began in 2006. At the time, JUNO HAIR had not yet become the global brand it is today. What stood out was not its scale, but the philosophy of its founder, who believed that people always come before business. We believed architecture could help express that philosophy.

A hair salon is more than a place for cutting hair. It is where people pause, meet, regain confidence, and spend a meaningful part of their day. The atmosphere of a salon is shaped not only by design, but by the relationships that unfold within it. Rather than relying on expressive forms, we focused on the qualities that people quietly experience. The movement of light, the rhythm of circulation, the texture of materials, and the balance between openness and privacy were carefully composed to create spaces that feel calm, natural, and welcoming.

Over nearly two decades, JUNO HAIR has grown from a leading Korean salon into an internationally recognized brand. Along that journey, Y GROUP continued to work alongside the company through projects including the renewal of the Migeum flagship salon and new locations in Bonifacio Global City, Manila, and Orchard Road, Singapore.

Each project responded to a different city and a different context, yet they all began with the same belief: Architecture should not simply express a brand. It should embody the way the brand thinks and serves people.

For us, the JUNO HAIR projects are not merely a series of salon designs. They represent the story of a brand that has grown over time, with architecture accompanying that journey.

That question continues to guide every project we undertake: What kind of memory will people take away from this place?
