좋은 집은 건축가 혼자 만들 수 없다. 좋은 건축주는 건축가에게 또 하나의 설계자가 된다. 강녕헌은 그런 프로젝트였다. 건축주는 패션 기업을 경영하고 있었지만, 오래전부터 건축과 디자인에 깊은 관심을 가져온 사람이었다. 유행보다 오래 남는 가치. 절제된 아름다움. 시간이 흘러도 변하지 않는 비례. 우리가 중요하게 생각했던 건축의 기준을 그는 이미 자신의 삶 속에서 실천하고 있었다. 그래서 이 프로젝트는 설계보다 대화가 먼저였다. 무엇을 만들 것인가보다 어떻게 살아갈 것인가를 함께 이야기하는 시간이 더 길었다.

강녕헌은 대칭과 수평에서 출발했다. 판교의 주택들은 저마다 자신을 드러내려는 건축이 많았다. 우리는 조금 다른 길을 선택했다. 건축은 조용해야 한다고 생각했다. 직선과 수평이 만드는 긴장감. 절제된 비례가 주는 안정감. 과장하지 않아도 오래 기억되는 건축을 그리고 싶었다. 형태는 단순하지만 그 안에는 수많은 비례와 디테일이 숨어 있다. 재료가 만나는 선 하나. 빛이 벽을 스치는 각도. 손끝에서 느껴지는 질감. 건축은 결국 이런 작은 차이들이 모여 완성된다고 믿는다.

공간은 폴리폼 가구와 함께 더욱 자연스럽게 완성되었다. 가구를 채워 넣은 것이 아니라 건축과 함께 공간을 만들어 가는 과정이었다. 비례와 디테일을 중요하게 생각하는 두 철학이 서로 닮아 있었기 때문이다. 돌아보면 강녕헌은 집을 설계한 프로젝트라기보다 신뢰를 설계한 프로젝트에 가까웠다. 좋은 건축은 좋은 관계에서 시작된다는 사실을 다시 한번 확인하게 해준 작업이었다. 오늘도 건축주가 그 집에서 만족하며 살아가고 있다는 이야기를 들을 때마다 건축가에게는 그것보다 큰 상은 없다는 생각을 하게 된다.

A meaningful house is never created by the architect alone. The client becomes another designer in the process. Kangnyeongheon grew from that kind of relationship. The client, the head of a fashion company, had long been interested in architecture and design. He valued qualities that endure beyond trends. Restraint. Balance. Proportion. Many of the architectural principles we believed in were already reflected in the way he approached life. The project therefore began not with drawings, but with conversations. We spent more time discussing how to live than what to build.

Kangnyeongheon is founded on symmetry and horizontality. Within a residential neighborhood where many houses compete for attention, we pursued a quieter architecture. Straight lines. Carefully measured proportions. A calm presence that reveals more over time than at first glance. Simplicity became the framework. Within that simplicity, every proportion and every detail mattered. The meeting of two materials. The way daylight moves across a wall. The texture felt by a hand. Architecture is ultimately completed through these small decisions.

The interiors found a natural dialogue with Poliform furniture. Rather than furnishing the architecture, the furniture became part of the architectural composition itself. Both shared the same appreciation for proportion, precision, and restraint. Looking back, Kangnyeongheon was never simply about designing a house. It was about designing trust. The project reminded us that meaningful architecture begins with a shared way of thinking. Knowing that the client continues to enjoy living there remains one of the greatest rewards an architect can receive.
